There are many who are hunting for rackets, balls, and table tennis tables. In August, the throughput on Tradera has increased by 160 percent compared to last year, which means that demand is greater than supply.
We often see that trends get a direct boost in sales, says Sofia Hagelin, press officer at Tradera.
On Blocket, searches for table tennis tables have increased by 66 percent compared to the previous week and are in seventh place in terms of what people are searching for most in the leisure and hobby category.
Popular collector's items
Time to sell for those who have table tennis equipment that's just gathering dust, then. And maybe especially if it's gathered a lot of dust.
Older rackets from the 1940-1980s have become popular collector's items. Especially the rackets Stiga developed after the professionals' playing styles and grips are in high demand today.
If you're lucky, you might be sitting on a "Tony Larsson Special" from the early 1960s. One of those was sold on Tradera for 24,000 kronor a few years ago. Just the frame for one was sold for 12,000 kronor the same year.
Clear Trulseffekt
There is also a great demand for new rackets, confirms Felix Wirström, PR officer at Stiga, which has been manufacturing table tennis equipment since the 1940s. Now, one sees an increased interest in the sport as a whole, but also a clear "Trulseffekt".
"We see an increase in our Truls-edition rackets and frames, which of course is a direct consequence of his fine achievements at the Olympic Games", writes Felix Wirström in an email to TT.
