"The Thin Blue Line" is back – for the last time

"The Thin Blue Line" is back on SVT, but then it's over. The popular police series is being discontinued. Every series has a beginning, a middle and an end, and now we have reached the end of this one, says executive producer Kristian Hoberstorfer at SVT.

The third season will be the last for Magnus, Sara, Jesse, and the other Malmö police officers in "Tunna blå linjen".

The series' creator Cilla Jackert states that it is a decision made by SVT.

I will answer diplomatically in this way – that this is the series and characters I have worked with the longest. Actually, for ten years, since 2014, but exclusively since 2018, so I think it's quite nice to leave room for new fantasy figures in my head. Really!

Prioritize

SVT wants to use the budget allocated to "Tunna blå linjen" for something else, according to Kristian Hoberstorfer.

As a company, we sometimes have to prioritize to be able to invest in new projects. Now is the time for that, he says.

Would you have wanted to continue if SVT had given the green light for a new season?

Now they're not doing that. It's a hypothetical question. I'm very keen on telling something else, says Cilla Jackert.

"Tunna blå linjen" has always used reality as a basis for the plot. The third season takes up party drug use and gang violence with events inspired by current headlines.

Screenwriter Cilla Jackert says she receives criticism from viewers who think the series is too preachy and people with diametrically opposed opinions.

And as a screenwriter, you have to be quite pleased with that. That you can provoke people in all sorts of different camps, or for that matter, get sympathy from different camps, she says with a smile.

Family Life

In their private lives, the series' big love couple Magnus (Oscar Töringe) and Sara (Amanda Jansson) have started family life. But it's not entirely uncomplicated. The neurotic Magnus is constantly worried when Sara is out on a mission.

Magnus takes the place of the one who expresses his worry and is anxious and eccentric, while Sara has to keep it more to herself and on the inside, says Amanda Jansson.

Magnus and Sara have become an iconic TV couple, and now that the series has ended, Amanda Jansson says it feels melancholic. Now the duo is splitting up.

Oscar and I talked about it. It's not given that we'll team up in a duo in another film or series in the future. Because we're now associated with Sara and Magnus. So it will probably take a while before we work together again.

"Tunna blå linjen" has its season premiere on SVT Play on September 27 and on SVT1 two days later.

The third round consists of six episodes, which will be released on SVT Play on Fridays and on SVT1 two days later.

The head writer is, as before, Cilla Jackert, while the series is directed by Jimmy Olsson (episodes 1 and 2), Saara Cantell (3 and 4), and Olof Spaak (5 and 6).

Amanda Jansson (Sara), Oscar Töringe (Magnus), Per Lasson (Jesse), Sandra Stojilikovic (Dani), Anna Sise (Faye), and Mustafa Al-Mashhadani (Khalid) play the lead roles. In the third season, Malou Marnfeldt also gets a larger role as the drug investigator Fanny. Completely new to the cast is Charlotta Björck as the outer commander Josefin.
