Best on the OMXS30 list was game developer Evolution, which rose 1.6 percent.

The major banks also rose after the US labor market authority reported weekly statistics for the number of new unemployed. Fewer people than expected registered as unemployed.

Nordea rose 1.4 percent, while Handelsbanken went up 0.5 percent. Swedbank also rose 0.1 percent.

The worst performer was real estate company SBB, which plummeted 3.3 percent. Investment company Kinnevik lost 2.6 percent, while defense group Saab fell 0.6 percent.

Leading European stock exchanges started the day up, but at the close, the trend was mixed, with Frankfurt rising and London and Paris falling.

After a few hours of trading, the trend on Wall Street pointed upwards following the new unemployment figures.
