The plans to continue operating Romateatern on Gotland are being shut down, reports P4 Gotland.
It was at the beginning of the year that the board and owners left the theater, but there were hopes that a new actor would take over the operations.
During the 35 years that the theater has existed, around 40 percent of the revenue has come from sponsors and grants, says Martin Alskog, one of the founders, to the channel.
There, we have not seen a tendency to want to support in the way that we see that one must do in order to have a sustainable future.
The board submitted an application to the region for operational support of 500,000 kronor per year for three years, but was rejected due to the region's economic situation.
Martin Alskog tells P4 Gotland that he does not understand the regional board's decision.
It's a small amount in relation to what you get, he says.
