Olle Lidbom describes it as Lagercrantz having been "curled" forward to stand as Hanna Stjärne's successor. And it's not an easy task, according to Lidbom, who called Stjärne's time "one of the toughest ever for a CEO at SVT". Partly due to a changed world situation with competitors like Netflix, Youtube, and Tiktok, but also with regard to the security situation.
The question is how Anne Lagercrantz can defend SVT in the political storm that has blown up around public service.
I don't think you should see the mission as being a lobbyist or defending Sveriges Television. I think it's more about showing that Sveriges Television stands strong and that it's an important media company that's important for Swedish democracy, says Olle Lidbom.
He predicts, however, that the change of CEO will not be noticed much.
I think Hanna Stjärne's contribution is that she has made Sveriges Television remain credible and remain relevant. I imagine that's the most important mission. That the viewers should notice very little of who is the CEO.
