The Government wants to reduce emissions of ammonia and greenhouse gases from agriculture, reduce environmental toxins in water and prevent the spread of invasive species in Sweden.
Therefore, the Government proposes in its budget to allocate 260 million kronor for this purpose next year.
This amount also includes measures for the restoration of meadows and pastures, measures against waste crime and for mosquito control.
The Government also proposes a new investment support called "the nitrogen step", where farmers will be helped to reduce emissions of, among other things, nitrogen compounds. 100 million kronor of the 260 million will be allocated for this purpose next year.
"The nitrogen step will, just like the Climate Step, provide great environmental benefits for every invested tax krona", says Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (The Liberals) in a press release.
