"Today, we are delivering three billion euros to Ukraine, the first payment of the EU part of the G7 loan", writes EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on X.
The proposal for revenue from Russian assets in EU countries, the USA, Canada, and Japan was adopted at the G7 group's summit last summer. The EU will contribute a total of around 200 billion kronor of the G7 loan, while the USA has promised to contribute the equivalent of over 220 billion kronor.
The G7 agreement has replaced an earlier EU initiative where revenue from Russian assets was sent to Ukraine.
