International English School (IES) submitted incorrect information to the Swedish National Agency for Education and could claim government funding that they were not entitled to. Now, the company will have to pay back 77 million kronor, according to SVT.
Even if the school is allowed to hire teachers without a Swedish teaching license, they are not allowed to teach languages and do not have the right to government funding for the teachers if they were to do so.
However, by submitting incorrect information to the Swedish National Agency for Education about what the teachers teach, IES has sought and received funding anyway. In total, this concerns 426 incorrect payments since 2022.
