Since the law on independent forfeiture came into force in November, the police have seized jewelry, cars and expensive watches worth 73.5 million kronor from criminals, according to Sveriges Radio Ekot.
Since November, a suspicion that a criminal's possessions were not acquired legally is enough to seize them.
The usual thing is that we make a vehicle stop one evening and you're sitting in a car worth hundreds of thousands of kronor despite us knowing that the person doesn't work or have a fortune and lives a criminal life, says Anders Rissel, police chief in Stockholm, to Sveriges Radio.
The police hope that the law will be able to stop the recruitment to the gangs.
It will be much harder to show off a facade of luxury, says Rissel.
