Evelyn Thomas, the disco queen who contributed to defining the high-nrg scene within dance music, is dead. This is reported by Billboard. She became 70 years old.
The death is confirmed by her collaboration partner and mentor Ian Levine.
"It's hard for me to accept that my protégée throughout my entire life has really left us. Her music will survive us all", he writes on X.
Evelyn Thomas' big breakthrough came with the hit song "High energy" in 1984, which sold over seven million copies worldwide.
Throughout her career, she released albums such as "I wanna make it on my own" from 1978, "High energy" from 1984, and "Standing at the crossroads" from 1986.
