The criticism of Möregårdh's schedule: "Gets irritated"

The schedule in men's singles in the Olympic Games receives criticism from former top player Ulf "Tickan" Carlsson. Table tennis star Truls Möregårdh is forced to play another match the same day after the major upset – but takes it calmly. It will be wonderful, he says.

Möregårdh pulled off an upset and knocked out world number one Wang Chuqin, China, on Wednesday morning.

This after having to wait three days for the match after the victory in the first round.

Now the tempo is suddenly being cranked up and already this evening at 20.00, the round of 16 match against Kao Cheng-Jui, Taiwan, awaits.

Kao played his match in the second round already on Monday.

Something that gets former national team captain and great player Ulf "Tickan" Carlsson, now a Radio Sport expert, to rage:

I really don't understand what they're doing. I get really irritated. It has to be the same conditions for all players, he says in Radio Sport's broadcast.

Truls Möregårdh toned down this fact after the match against Wang.

It's wonderful. Just like when you were ten years old and just played. It feels wonderful, he says about the new match on Wednesday evening.

National team captain Jörgen Persson:

If you've won a match like this, there shouldn't be any problems playing two matches a day.

It's just a matter of reloading. He gets to enjoy this and then it's on again. Hopefully, there's a match tomorrow too, says Persson.

World number one Wang Chuqin played the losing match against Möregårdh with a reserve racket since his regular one got trampled in the celebration scenes after the gold in mixed doubles on Tuesday.

But the Chinese player didn't want to blame the loss on that.

He played very well and it wasn't the racket that made me lose, he says via interpreter.
