The Crash Forces Hallam to Miss Home Tournament

A national team crash in February means that the national team captain Sam Hallam of Tre Kronor chooses to opt out of the home tournament in Stockholm. This is for the star-studded four-nation tournament with NHL players in North America.

TT wrote on Friday that there will be two different coaching staffs leading Tre Kronor first in the home tournament Beijer Hockey Games in Stockholm on February 3-9 and then in NHL's four-nation tournament in Montreal and Boston on February 10-20.

Sam Hallam did not want to confirm it on Friday morning, but the message came on the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's website a few hours later.

The junior national team's captain Magnus Hävelid will lead Tre Kronor in the home tournament, while Hallam and the regular national team management will take care of the tournament with NHL stars in North America.

Tre Kronor's NHL team gathers in Montreal on February 10, the day after Beijer Hockey Games ends.

"We have naturally discussed back and forth how we would approach February, which will be an intense month for us. It didn't feel optimal for the regular staff to lead Tre Kronor in both Beijer Hockey Games and NHL 4 nations Face-off, considering the tournaments overlap", says national team manager Anders Lundberg on the association's website.

Both tournaments are important for Tre Kronor.

The home tournament is played in the newly renovated Globen (Avicii arena) just three months before the home World Championship in the same arena, where the ice hockey team is chasing its first championship gold since 2018.

NHL's four-nation tournament, where Sweden faces Canada, the USA, and Finland, is decided one year before the star-studded Olympic Games tournament in Milan, where NHL pros participate for the first time since the OS in Sochi 2014.

The four-nation tournament is the first since the World Cup 2016 with NHL teams.

+ Beijer Hockey Games, February 3-9, 2025 (Stockholm).

The game schedule has not yet been presented.

Tre Kronor's coaching staff: Magnus Hävelid, captain, Gereon Dahlgren, assistant, Niclas Grossmann, assistant, Viktor Alm, goalkeeper coach.

+ NHL's four-nation tournament, February 10-20, 2025 (Montreal/Boston).

Sweden's matches: February 13: Canada–Sweden (Montreal, 02.00 Swedish time), February 15: Finland–Sweden (Montreal, 19.00), February 18: Sweden–USA (Boston, 02.00).

Final: February 21, 02.00.

Tre Kronor's management staff: Sam Hallam, captain, Stefan Klockare, assistant, Nicklas Rahm, assistant, Anthon Hansson, goalkeeper coach.
