The day after the lightning strike on Lidingö, the football club IFK Lidingö is in shock. Three of the club's youth players were severely injured. "We're only thinking of those affected," writes club manager Markus Karlsson to TT.

Several players in the football club IFK Lidingö's boys' team were injured when lightning struck during a training session on Thursday evening, as a severe thunderstorm swept over the Stockholm area.

Three boys were seriously injured. A total of eight were taken to hospital.

The boys were standing under a tree when the lightning struck.

IFK Lidingö writes on its website that the club has cancelled its children's and youth activities on Friday and that a crisis group has been set up.

"We're clearly feeling very bad as a club right now and are only thinking of those affected", writes club manager Markus Karlsson in a message to TT.

Karlsson writes further that the club will meet with the affected team's players and relatives on Friday – and that the Red Cross, Lidingö municipality, and a priest are involved.

"We are fully focused on the work that needs to be done right now", writes Markus Karlsson.
