The Christian Democrats and the Sweden Democrats are open to reintroducing landmines, also known as personal and anti-personnel mines, into the Swedish defense. This despite Sweden, along with 163 other countries, banning the weapon type, according to the so-called Ottawa treaty.
It's all about deterrence. If Russia knows we have this weapon, then the chances increase that we'll never have to use it. This is part of our home insurance, says Mikael Oscarsson, member of parliament for the Christian Democrats, to Ekot on Swedish Radio.
The two parties also state that it's not ruled out to review the ban on cluster munitions.
