Sales slump for Tesla

Now Tesla's sales in Europe are diving. In January, only 9,945 cars were sold, almost a halving compared to last year. In Germany, where CEO Elon Musk has supported the far-right party AFD, the worst figures since 2021 are recorded.

The monthly statistics from the industry organization EAMA show a clear language: around Europe, Tesla's sales are now decreasing, while several competitors in the electric car market are instead showing a sales increase.

Both the financial newspaper Financial Times and the news agency Bloomberg note that the sales decline is occurring simultaneously with CEO and founder Elon Musk increasingly actively intervening in European politics and, among other things, expressing his support for the party Alternative for Germany (AFD) ahead of last weekend's German election.

Musk has, among other things, arranged and participated in a long conversation with party leader Alice Weidel, which was broadcast on Musk-owned X. He also appeared at the end of January at an election rally with AFD.

In the important German market, Tesla now sold only 1,277 cars, the lowest figure since the summer of 2021. In France, sales simultaneously plummeted by 63 percent to the lowest figure since August 2022.

Tesla also saw itself beaten by Chinese BYD for the first time on the British market. This is happening simultaneously with the total electric car sales in Europe amounting to 166,000 vehicles, which is an increase of 37 percent compared to January 2024.

From Tesla's side, it has been warned that design changes in the manufacturer's Y-model, which was originally launched in 2020, will contribute to reduced production at the beginning of 2025.
