According to the figures, the average consumption decreased by 2.3 percent, from 8.6 liters of pure alcohol per person in 2023 to 8.4 liters last year.

The basis comes from the Monitor surveys, which are a population survey where 18,000 people each year answer questions about their alcohol and tobacco consumption via a web questionnaire or telephone interview.

The statistics are in line with the trend that has been discernible regarding Swedes' alcohol consumption over the past decade.

If we look at the last ten years, there has been a decrease of around 10 percent. Then it was a bit over nine liters of pure alcohol per inhabitant and year. Now we are a bit below. Above all, it is the men who have reduced their consumption, said Björn Trolldal, researcher and investigator at CAN, to TT last year.
