Who will do what in Ursula von der Leyen's next EU Commission has not yet been presented. But criticism is already coming from Europe's gathered social democrats.
"It's time to issue a warning... The next Commission must meet our expectations", says Stefan Löfven (S) – now chairman of the European social democratic umbrella organization PES – in a statement together with Spanish Iratxe García, group leader for S-members in the EU Parliament.
The criticism concerns, among other things, the gender distribution and reports that Italy's commissioner, from the far-right party group ECR, may get a post as vice chairman.
Furthermore, it is disliked that the S-movement's top candidate ahead of the EU election, Luxembourg's Nicolas Schmit, is not included. This is due to the fact that Luxembourg's right-wing government instead chose to nominate a conservative candidate – entirely in accordance with the rules.
