The shooting took place in a residential area at 11 am on Saturday. The police have cordoned off an indoor area in a multi-family house where the shooting is suspected to have taken place.
It's a confirmed sharp shooting. One person has been shot and taken to hospital, says Olle Älveroth, police press spokesperson.
The man is seriously injured, but his condition is stable, according to a statement from Mälarsjukhuset in Eskilstuna.
On Friday evening, at 11 pm, a person was shot in the Årby district, about five kilometers from Lagersberg. During Saturday morning, the police announced that the shot person, a 35-year-old man, had died.
The police do not want to comment on whether the events are connected to each other.
It's a bit too early to make any such connections from my point of view here. We're treating this as an isolated incident, initially. But if it turns out that it can lead to connections, it's of course something that's interesting for us to look further into, says Olle Älveroth.
Eskilstuna has been heavily exposed to gang-related deadly violence in recent years, which according to the police has been linked to conflicts between criminal networks. As many as 32 shootings occurred in the municipality in 2022, and since the spring of 2022, at least six people have died in shootings in the city.
A newly moved-in neighbor in the area is dismayed by what happened in Lagersberg.
Suddenly, sirens were heard and then lots of police cars and ambulances arrived. It's scary, considering all the children who are out playing, the person says to Eskilstuna-Kuriren.
