The man, who is in his 40s, is suspected of having controlled a large-scale drug trade in Sweden from abroad.
However, getting him extradited from Serbia, where he was arrested in October last year, has taken time. Now, a Serbian court has made a decision to extradite the man, according to P4 Skaraborg.
According to prosecutor Johanna Kolga, a clearance from Serbia's Ministry of Justice is still pending.
It will be processed in their Ministry of Justice, which makes the final decision, she says to TT.
We expect the decision to come today or tomorrow, and the hope is that it will be the same decision as the court's.
Delayed Process
Johanna Kolga is critical of the delay and has previously stated to Aftonbladet that the suspected gang leader has managed to delay the court proceedings in Serbia through threats or bribes.
On several occasions, planned hearings with the man, who is suspected of, among other things, aggravated drug offenses in Sweden, have had to be cancelled.
"Enormous Violence Capital"
In connection with his arrest, Johanna Kolga described the man as "highly interesting" for the investigation.
He has enormous violence capital and enormous financial resources. He has controlled much of the drug market and arms market in Sweden. He has ensured that drugs and weapons have entered Sweden and financed the structure, she said to Aftonbladet last autumn.
Now, the extradition to Sweden seems to be finally happening.
We're just waiting for the Ministry of Justice's decision. But they've had over a year to process this, says Johanna Kolga.
