The man is suspected of having controlled a large-scale drug trade in Sweden from abroad. He was extradited from Serbia to Sweden earlier in the week and was arrested on Wednesday at Södertälje district court.
The signal value is important, both big and small, to send signals that one is not safe even if one sits abroad and does not touch the narcotics, says the police's investigation leader Peter Sundblad to the radio.
The process of getting him extradited from Serbia has been ongoing for over a year. The work has been complicated by the man himself trying to stop the extradition, prosecutor Johanna Kolga has previously stated.
