Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who leads the EU-friendly centrist party Civic Platform, declares victory after the result of a polling station investigation is announced, reports AP.
According to Polish media, the governing Civic Coalition, to which Tusk's party belongs, appears to be getting just over 38 per cent.
The EU-sceptic right-wing party Law and Justice, which previously governed the country, gets nearly 34 per cent, while the extreme-right Coalition gets nearly 12 per cent.
In addition to Civic Platform, the Greens and a few smaller parties are also part of the Civic Coalition.
Tusk, who was President of the European Council between 2014 and 2019, has emphasized national security in the election campaign and promised to strengthen border controls.
