A nearly complete skeleton of the dinosaur species stegosaurus has been sold to an unknown buyer for 44.6 million dollars, equivalent to approximately 470 million kronor.

The around 150 million year old dinosaur fossil, which is approximately 3.3 meters high and 8.2 meters long, was expected to bring in between 4 and 6 million dollars.

The specimen is described as one of the most well-preserved dinosaur skeletons of its kind and was discovered near the town of Dinosaur in the US state of Colorado in 2022. It contains 254 of 319 bone fragments.

It was sold at the auction house Sotheby's in New York.
