There will be no Swede in the European Championship final in the long jump in Rome. Maja Åskag had a grip on a final spot in the qualifying round for a long time, but in the end, three centimetres were lacking to be among the twelve best.

It's a bit sour, it's so little. But it was such a high level today, I did what I could, says Åskag to SVT.

Åskag finished the qualifying round at 6.60 metres while Tilde Johansson stopped at 6.55. The results meant a new personal best for the year for both Swedish women. German Malaika Mihambo jumped the farthest: 7.03.

In the 4x400 metres, there will be no final for the Swedish women either, despite a Swedish record in the attempt. Lisa Lilja, Moa Granat, Jonna Claesson and Marie Kimumba ran in 3.29.84 and finished seventh out of eight teams in their heat.
