In the beginning of June, it was discovered that the statue "Solglitter" by Carl Milles had been stolen from its location outside the bathhouse in Trelleborg. Now, a 50-year-old man has been sentenced to six months in prison for gross fraud, writes Trelleborgs Allehanda.
In the interrogation, the man stated that he had bought the statue from a "fence". However, this has not been proven, but the man has in any case sold the statue further to a scrapyard.
The verdict states that the man was indifferent to the fact that it could be stolen goods. But considering how he acquired the statue and its special design, he should have understood that it was a matter of public art, which has a significant economic and cultural value even in damaged condition.
On the other hand, the court does not believe that he knew it was specifically "Solglitter" or a statue by Carl Milles that was involved.
