The Swedish Museums Association has compiled the member museums' visitor numbers for June to August this year. 7.4 million museum visits have been reported during the period, which is a decrease of 1.5 percent compared to last year.
According to the organization, the decrease is however marginal, and the reasons for the decrease are good weather at the end of the period as well as the visitors' and museums' strained economy.
A clear trend is that museums with free admission attracted more visitors this year than last year.
The largest percentage increase is found in the Örebro region, followed by Dalarna. Stockholm County attracted 44 percent of museum visits, where Skansen and the Vasa Museum are at the top.
170 museum organizations from around the country participated in the survey.
