Swedish e-commerce turned over 12.1 billion kronor in August, according to Svensk Handel's e-commerce indicator. This meant a slight increase – of 1 percent – compared to the same month last year.
Just like in July, the average total purchase amount per consumer was low in a historical perspective.
"This is the lowest August average since we started measuring in 2020. The proportion of those who shop online is, however, still historically high at 71 percent. In August, it was enough to slightly boost total sales," says Per Ljungberg, innovation manager at Svensk Handel, in a press release.
At the same time, more consumers than in previous years state that they prefer to shop from foreign low-price actors such as Temu and Shein.
"This is alarming, and directly harmful to Swedish e-commerce," says Per Ljungberg.
So far this year, e-commerce sales have increased by 9 percent compared to 2023, which was a very weak year.
