A proposal that Russia's President Vladimir Putin does not say he has anything against. On Thursday, Putin said on Russian TV that Fico, during his visit to Moscow earlier in the week, had offered Slovakia as a "platform for negotiations", according to the TV channel Deutsche Welle.
Ukraine's government has not yet responded to the offer.
Fico is one of the few European leaders who still have a friendly attitude towards Putin, after the war of aggression in Ukraine.
The Slovakian government is often described as Russia-friendly and populist, and the country's President Peter Pellegrini went out in December saying that Ukraine must be prepared to lose parts of its territory for peace to be achieved.
