Skillinge Theater on Österlen is denied the operational grant from the Cultural Council - which means that the theater must close, the theater reports.
"You receive operational grants to secure continuity, and we have received it for over 15 years. Removing it means a death blow to Skillinge Theater as an independent producing theater company", says Karin Johanssson-Mex, operational manager at the theater in a press release.
According to the theater - which will celebrate 30 years next year - there was no warning and no dialogue was conducted regarding the Cultural Council's decision. Now, the council is accused of only providing funds to the large cities in Skåne.
"The Cultural Council's astonishing decision has the consequence that the well-known and revenue-generating summer performance is now forced to be discontinued", reads part of the press release.
