Instead, Sergej Beljajev will take over, according to a decree from Russia's President Vladimir Putin.

In recent years, after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, there has been a storm surrounding the current ambassador, and he has been called up to the Foreign Ministry several times.

Among other things, the ambassador has pointed out Sweden as a legitimate target in the event of a NATO entry.

Tatarintsev has a solid background as a diplomat and has had assignments at the Swedish embassy since he first came to Sweden in 1980.

The new ambassador Beljajev also has a long diplomatic career behind him and has previously worked at, among other things, the embassy in Finland.
