Images show how the roof panel of the giant arena has partially been torn off in connection with Hurricane Milton sweeping in over Florida's west coast. Initially, it is still unclear how severe the damage is to the facility, but the lighting inside the arena is clearly visible in pictures taken from the outside, which confirms that there are holes in the roof. According to the baseball team Tampa Bay Rays, none of their employees have been injured, and the arena has not been used as a gathering place during the hurricane.

Tropicana Field opened in 1990 and cost $138 million to build, equivalent to approximately 1.4 billion kronor with today's exchange rate. However, the plan is for Tampa Bay Rays to move into a new arena starting from the 2028 season.

The basketball club Orlando Magic, which is preparing for the upcoming NBA season, had their home trip from the away game against San Antonio delayed at the same time. Friday's match against New Orleans Pelicans has also been cancelled. In addition to the NBA match, several colleges in Florida have also cancelled their upcoming sports events.
