In total, at least 628 people in Syria have been killed or injured by landmines, unexploded ordnance and other explosive remnants since December 8 when the previous regime was overthrown, according to Save the Children.

Of the 628, 188 are children, and among them, 60 children have died as a result of their injuries.

"In the past three months, nearly 1.2 million people have returned to their homes in Syria, including more than 885,000 internally displaced persons", writes Save the Children in its report, citing UN statistics.

Save the Children notes that a large part of the land is mined or littered with undetonated explosives.

"As more families return to their homes, especially in areas marked by war, children will be increasingly exposed", writes Save the Children.
