In a joint statement, it is stated that they are "appalled by the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Sudan, including the growing number of people affected by severe malnutrition and starvation".
They urge the government forces and the rebel group RSF to allow humanitarian pauses "to enable the movement of life-saving supplies" and allow civilians to get away from the fighting.
The war in Sudan broke out in 2023 after Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo ended up in a power struggle following a joint military coup. The coup leader and general al-Burhan represents the country's army, while Dagalo leads RSF.
The UN estimates that 25 million people in Sudan are suffering from severe hunger. According to the organization Sudan's doctor network, hundreds of children have died of starvation this year.
