Trump "has become a figurehead in a global anti-journalistic political movement", the organization writes in a statement.
Since Trump returned to the presidential post, he has, according to RSF, used legal and economic means to put pressure on news editorial offices, dismantled public media, banned media channels and undesirable word choices, and smeared journalists and their editorial offices.
Through his actions and attacks on journalists, Trump has increased threats and hatred against journalists globally and further restricted press freedom, according to RSF.
"It is obvious that Trump has reinforced the phenomenon, encouraged and inspired other leaders to strike down on their own national media. The result is a disaster for global press freedom", says the organization's American chief Clayton Weimers in a statement.
An example from February this year is when Trump restricted the American news agency AP's access to the White House after they refused to write "American Gulf" instead of "Mexican Gulf", which Trump had recently renamed.
