There is a clear regulatory framework for how pharmacies should dispense medication to undocumented immigrants. But a report from Fug shows that there are serious knowledge gaps among doctors and pharmacists. This has in several cases led to prescribed medications not being dispensed.
Often it's about the prescription being written incorrectly, says Kristina Billberg, project leader and chairperson of Fug to Pharmaceutical World.
She tells us that an undocumented immigrant was without their diabetes medication for half a year.
That person, of course, didn't feel well because of it. We saw how patients' medication treatment was delayed, in some cases with serious consequences, says Kristina Billberg to the newspaper.
Persons who do not have the right to reside in Sweden are entitled to certain healthcare and medication. The undocumented immigrant pays 50 kronor for each prescription, the rest is paid by the region where the person resides.
