Rembrandt's classic painting "The Night Watch" from 1642 is to undergo the most extensive restoration in history, reports SR Culture News.
The work will take several years and involves eight conservators. The conservators will start by removing a layer of varnish from the canvas – which is approximately four and a half meters wide.
According to Taco Dibbits, director of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Rembrandt painted with a strong contrast between light and darkness, but it has become less clear in the painting. He believes that when the work is restored, it will have more depth and the people in the image will come to life, he tells Reuters, reports Culture News.
