The jury writes in its motivation that the company, which has toured Sweden with fairy tale hours, theater, and musicals for children, "has in a innovative way increased young people's interest in reading".
The initiator Petter Wallenberg says in a press release that it feels "fantastic" to receive the recognition that the prize entails: "The money will help us continue to inspire more young people to discover the written word".
Among Dragons and Drag Queens was the first in Sweden to organize fairy tale hours where drag artists read fairy tales to children at libraries. The group has, however, faced threats and hate over the years, including calls for members to be subjected to violence.
"It feels important to reward Among Dragons and Drag Queens' important and sometimes opposed work", says Eva Glückman, CEO of Grafiska Företagen in the press release.
