The 85-year-old lawyer is convicted of several cases of fraud, including embezzling three million dollars that were intended for the victims' relatives after the plane crash off Java in 2018, according to American media.
The verdict was announced on September 6. Girardi has denied the allegations.
The prosecutors claimed in court that Tom Girardi used his celebrity status from TV to deceive his clients out of millions of dollars.
Tom Girardi has been a frequent participant in the popular reality series where his wife Erika was one of the stars – one of the rich housewives. But the couple separated in 2020 and Erika Jayne has stated that she was unaware of her husband's criminal activities. She has also never been suspected of a crime.
