Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have taken over the main building of Gothenburg University at Vasaplatsen, reports P4 Gothenburg.

We are on site due to 15 demonstrators having taken over the building and chained themselves up, says press spokesperson Fredrik Svedemyr to TT.

We are on site and handling the situation.

The students are chanting slogans, but according to Helén Sedström, communicator at Gothenburg University, it is otherwise calm on site.

The police are having a dialogue with them. But it's calm and not many people here. It's mostly the demonstrators and the police, she says.

Students have been demonstrating outside the building for four weeks and, among other things, demanded that the university condemn Israel's warfare.

They were, however, forced to pack up their tents on Saturday due to the building being one of the polling stations in Sunday's European Championship election.
