Four young men were recently convicted of aggravated rape of a child. Now, the prosecutor is appealing the verdict, seeking stricter sentences and deportation for the two older men who are foreign nationals.
"A deportation request should have been included when the charges were brought to the district court. It was overlooked due to negligence," says Daniel Edsbagge, chief prosecutor at the Gothenburg prosecutor's office, in a comment.
The incident occurred last summer when four teenagers – between 15 and 19 years old – raped a 15-year-old girl in Frölunda, Gothenburg.
Two of them – the older ones, both of legal age – were sentenced to five years in prison by the district court, while the two younger ones were sentenced to closed youth care.
