Police: The School the Only Link Between the Victims

The details surrounding the mass shooting at an Örebro school last week are starting to become clear. At the same time, many questions remain about the motive. The only thing we have is the connection between the perpetrator and the school through him having been enrolled there, says Niclas Hallgren at the police.

Through the technical investigation, the police can follow the perpetrator's trail in the school, how he moved and where the shots were fired.

It also means that we get support for our current hypothesis that the selection of victims within the school is more randomly emphasized than targeted at a specific group, says Niclas Hallgren, deputy regional police chief in Bergslagen, to TT.

Different background

Ten people were killed and six injured in the mass shooting. The individuals have different backgrounds, ethnic affiliations, gender, and age.

The only thing we have is the connection between the perpetrator and the school through his enrollment, says Hallgren.

The suspected perpetrator Rickard Andersson has been enrolled in the school twice, but has not accumulated any points.

More than 50 shots

During the mass shooting, more than 50 shots were fired. The police have also found a large amount of unused ammunition near the deceased perpetrator.

The police entered Risbergska school five minutes after the first alarm about the shooting.

They are exposed to a fairly extensive barrage and then, in connection with it, the perpetrator ends his life, says Hallgren.

It wasn't until about an hour after the police arrived that the deceased perpetrator was found.

Was anyone shot after the police confronted the perpetrator?

It's a very important question and we have an understanding of it. We are working to secure the information and hope to be able to provide an answer soon.

On site, it may have been perceived as if the shooting continued for much longer than it did.

The distraction grenades we use produce extremely loud bangs and we assume that people outside and definitely people inside the building perceived it as gunfire.

Purchased ammunition

The police have also traced how the alleged shooter prepared for the act.

For example, through the purchase of ammunition and smoke grenades that were later used.

The police have been in contact with the suspected perpetrator's relatives, but do not want to comment on how it affects the investigation.

We feel that there aren't many social contacts around him. But we appeal to anyone who has had contact with the perpetrator to contact us.
