Jack Teixeira, who admitted to leaking classified material, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by a federal judge in the USA on Tuesday. The 22-year-old Teixeira gathered and spread hundreds of classified documents when he worked within the national guard in the state of Massachusetts.

The classified documents that Teixeira spread, including via social media and gaming groups, consisted, among other things, of intelligence about Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine. There were also details about the type of military equipment that the USA was ready to provide to Ukraine and how it would be used upon receipt, according to the Justice Department's indictment.

The defendant admitted to the crimes earlier this year.

The federal prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of over 16 years, while Teixeira's defense attorney pleaded for 11 years in prison.

Teixeira himself was remorseful when the sentence was to be announced:

I am sorry for all the harm that I have caused.
