Persson and Pehrson switch jobs

A rockad is the unexpected move in Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson's new government. For one of the key figures, Johan Pehrson, it's nothing remarkable: As an old football coach, I know the importance of being able to change positions at halftime even if you're leading, he says at the press conference.

The Liberals' party leader becomes the new Minister of Education and thereby swaps places with their party colleague Mats Persson. The latter takes over Johan Pehrson's role as Minister of Labour Market and Integration.

It is with great humility that I step into the lead, says Johan Pehrson about taking over the portfolio that many party leaders for the Liberals have had in previous governments.

We're doing this to make the government team even stronger.

Among other things, the free school issue is one of the main points in the future work, says Johan Pehrson.

I was clear when I took office as party leader that we must reform the free school policy. It is now important that I can drive through the final changes.

But can't Mats Persson do that?

Yes, absolutely, but I'm the party leader and I feel that I must take full responsibility.

Both L-politicians are veterans in politics and according to Johan Pehrson, their areas are well connected, which also facilitates the shift:

Mine and Mats Persson's different areas are close and practically very overlapping in the concrete work within the government. We will continue that cooperation, he says.

We're doing this to maximize the outcome for Sweden.
