A lot of local rain showers with thunder are formed during the afternoon and into the evening. Some will be very intense and give large amounts of rain in a short time, says Maria Svedestig, meteorologist at SMHI.

It's about rain amounts of 30-50 millimeters that can fall in a short time. The warning applies from 2 pm on Friday to 9 pm.

On Saturday, SMHI issues a rain warning in the southern and central coastal areas of Norrland between 1 pm and 10 pm.

The unstable weather is due to the fact that warm and humid air is present over the country, with a lot of energy.

The air is unstable, and therefore these rain showers can form. Especially when the high pressure is on the decline, it's starting to weaken, then there's room for them to grow.

According to SMHI, large variations can occur and it's therefore difficult to determine where the largest amounts will fall.

Previously, the weather authority has also issued a yellow warning for large amounts of rain in large parts of Götaland and parts of inland Svealand on Friday.

In northeastern Norrland, an orange warning for high temperatures still applies. The temperatures in the northern parts of the country, which have had 30 degrees in some areas, are expected to drop to around 20 degrees in the coming days.

The greatest chances of sunshine on Saturday are in Kalmar County with Öland, as well as the Bohus coast. On Sunday, sun worshippers will have to turn their attention to southern Gotland.
