The death toll after a tanker truck accident in Nigeria on Saturday has risen to 86, according to the rescue service. More than 50 people have also suffered serious burns after the explosion.
The accident occurred on a road between the cities of Abuja and Kaduna in central Nigeria on Saturday morning. A tanker truck carrying 60,000 liters of gasoline overturned and exploded. Those who died are said to have approached the tanker truck to collect the gasoline that was leaking out after it overturned.
The gasoline price in Nigeria has increased drastically over the past 18 months, which has led to many risking their lives to collect gasoline in connection with tanker truck accidents.
