A review has revealed that over 100 landlords in 85 municipalities do not address problems in houses where tenants live with damp, mold, pests, and cut-off electricity, according to a review conducted by Hem & Hyra and SVT News.
The landlords could be stopped with a new law against unscrupulous property buyers. But despite a finished bill to reintroduce the acquisition law, which was scrapped 14 years ago, Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (The Moderate Party) is hesitant.
At the core, it is important that we have a living housing market, where many actors can participate and own and rent out properties for various purposes, and we do not want to undermine that, says Gunnar Strömmer to Hem & Hyra and SVT News and continues:
It's about Sweden's competitiveness and also the opportunity for residents to be able to choose between different landlords, for example.
