Dark prophecies about free world trade are being trumpeted since Donald Trump won the presidential election in the USA, among other things with messages about raised import tariffs against China.
During a visit to Hong Kong on Saturday, Jensen Huang – the CEO of the American semiconductor company Nvidia, the world's highest valued listed company – emphasized the importance of open trade and knowledge sharing across national borders.
Open research is one of the miracles of modern science, and perhaps the ultimate form of global cooperation, something we must defend, he said.
According to Huang, the AI company has benefited from its large presence in China, with offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen.
Huang was present when he was appointed honorary doctor at a technical university in Hong Kong, and he encouraged the students to seek jobs at Nvidia.
Earlier in the week, the Nvidia CEO indicated that the company will support Trump's stance towards China when he takes office at the beginning of next year.
