The measurement was so surprising that it went viral and US newspapers and TV programs did special reports on it. In the state of Iowa, which is generally seen as a stable Republican state and not counted among the swing states, the Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has suddenly taken the lead.
She is now leading over the Republican Donald Trump by three percentage points, according to a recurring opinion poll conducted by the newspaper Des Moines Register. In a similar survey from September, Trump had a lead of four percentage points.
Donald Trump won Iowa in the presidential elections of 2016 and 2020 by nine and eight percentage points, respectively.
The measurement should, however, be taken with a grain of salt. The sample consists of only 808 voters and Harris' lead is precisely within the margin of error.
