Finland gets a new NATO staff in S:t Michel, which is located about 20 miles from the Russian border, reports Finnish media.
The NATO staff is placed in connection to Finland's army staff and the idea is that it can lead ground operations in the Nordic region.
This makes it possible to utilize resources for planning and execution of ground operations and defense measures in the alliance's areas in the north, says Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen, according to Svenska Yle.
The personnel will consist of around ten people from different countries.
The proposal will be finalized during NATO's top meeting next year.
