Now Swedish high school students will take the national tests digitally for the first time.
The digitization of the tests is part of a government assignment to, among other things, make the grading more fair.
"The digitization strengthens the possibility of more fair grading since the students' answers are completely anonymous and are assessed by more teachers than before", says Marcello Marrone, unit manager at the Swedish National Agency for Education and responsible for the introduction of digital national tests at the agency, in a press release.
The digital tests cannot be spread in advance, which reduces the risk of cheating. The fact that the students' answers are anonymous makes the assessment more fair and the teachers' work becomes easier as certain parts of the tests are corrected automatically.
From autumn 2026, certain parts of the tests will be assessed centrally, to further strengthen the equivalence in the assessment.
