The Canadian author and journalist Naomi Klein received the British literary prize Women’s Prize for Nonfiction, which was awarded for the first time.
Klein was awarded for her latest book, "Doppelgänger. A Journey Through the Mirror World", which, among other things, deals with how she is mistaken for the pandemic denier Naomi Wolf.
The literary prize Women’s Prize for Fiction, on the other hand, went to the American author VV Ganeshananthan for the novel "Brotherless Night". VV Ganeshananthan, who has Tamil roots herself, portrays a family severely affected by the civil war in Sri Lanka. The book took her two decades to write.
The prizes are awarded to female authors who write in English and whose works are published in England. The literary prize was previously called the Orange Prize and was first awarded in 1996.
